About BE

Barbara Edwards works in ceramics, mosaic and plants.

I used to paint with acrylics and I assumed I would go back to seriously painting when I stopped teaching full time, so I was surprised when I “fell” for ceramics after going to a community open studio with a friend a few years ago. I had done little claywork since college. I have been a jeweler, silversmith and a painter, mostly in acrylics, even though I have always thought of myself as more of a sculptor.

I am completely intrigued with all the possibilities to choose from under the ceramics umbrella.

  1. I love seeing all of Barbara’s pottery and mosaics in her gorgeous garden overflowing with flowers, grasses, vines and vegetables.
On a recent visit to her garden I was so happy to see her vibrant four foot high ceramic Cactus standing tall among the bee plants, and small colorful ceramic birds perched in her many pots throughout the the garden. Barbara’s elegant sculpted ceramic woman’s head with bird protruding from her temple (Birdbrain as the piece is called) rested cosily in the lettuce patch presumeably frightening off birds like a ceramic scarecrow. The large original ceramic tile pieces affixed to the fence were like windows into Barbara’s imagination. I could linger there for a long time. Keep up the exciting work Barbara!
